MA DESE SIF Project Goals

• Create a SIF Vertical Infrastructure at ESE
• Create SIF Vertical Infrastructures at 40
  selected pilot districts and initiate collection
  of specific data using SIF.

• Broad Sampling of Districts
• Small and Large districts
• Commercial and Home Grown SIS
• Have SIFA-certified application agent(s) for
  district applications
• Have no SIF infrastructure support for district
  applications

Funding Breakdown

• Project funded by Federal SLDS Grant
• 1,450,000 to
• Implement SIF Infrastructure at ESE
• Implement SIF infrastructure in 40 Massachusetts
  pilot districts
• 800,000 for
• ESE grants to pilot districts in support of SIF
  implementation.
• Expand hardware infrastructure to include
  required software licenses (e.g. operating
  systems, relational database management systems)
• Acquisition or upgrade of district software
  applications to versions that have a SIF
  component.
• Augment personnel resources

  Schedule and Completion / Marks System (SCS)
  collections
• Education Personnel Information Management System
  (EPIMS) collections.
• Parallel implementation with development of
  Operational Data Store (ODS)

• Responses due by November 2nd
• Anticipate vendor selection by mid-December

Questions(received to date)

• Q1. Is this grant opportunity only available for
  the SIMS Expansion Project pilot districts or all
  districts? Only for high need districts?
• A1. This grant opportunity is available to all
  public school districts and charter schools.

• 2. Can Educational Collaboratives apply for this
  grant?
• A2. No.

• Q3. Is this the grant opportunity that was
  mentioned in the Data Initiatives information
  sessions held in spring 2009?
• A3. Yes

• Q4. If districts choose to collaborate, do they
  each need to submit a grant application and will
  each district receive funding?
• A4. Yes, each district must submit an application
  and should cite the districts that they will be
  collaborating with. Each district will receive
  funding.

• Q5. Can this grant be used to fund other
  solutions (i.e. Level Data)?
• A5. Although Level Data may be an acceptable
  solution to support a horizontal exchange of
  information these funds are to support vertical
  SIF implementation.
