December 6th 1941
FDR made one last attempt at peace with Japan. He
didnt get a response.
Later that day the US code breaking service got a
message from the Japanese. They couldnt make out
the last part of the message.
They knew there would be an attack from the
Japanese. They just thought it would be in
Southeast Asia.

Attack Times

• December 7, 1941
• 702 A.M.- Officers detect Japanese fleet but
  thought it was just American B-17 bombers.
• 715 A.M.- 167 more planes took off for Hawaii
• 753 A.M.- The first attack on aircraft and
  battle ships, second was for Kane Ohe, and other
  ships at Pearl Harbor.
• Attacks lasted until 945 A.M.

The loss

• 13 Battleships damaged or sunk
• 188 aircraft destroyed
• 2,335 servicemen killed
• 68 civilians and 1,178 wounded

• The attack made US citizens switch from
  isolationism to supporters of the war.
• December 8th the U.S. and Britain declared war
  with the axis powers.
• On the 11th we were officially in the war
