Problem
  • We want to take our HMV experience one step
further and give ourselves a challenge.
  • Our goal is to create a fully functional solar
    powered car.
  • We chose this project with the goal of leaving a
legacy of our finished solar powered car

4
Deliverables
  • Fully functional and working solar powered car
  • Timeline
  • Bill of Materials
  • Binder containing documentation of the whole
    project

5
Responsibilities
  • Documentation Girls
  • Research All
  • Fundraising All, mostly Girls
  • CAD Drawings Guys
  • Building All, mostly Guys
  • Driving Girls
  • Testing All

6
Research
  • In order to make a solar powered car, we had to
    understand how they work.
  • We have researched all the components needed to
    make a functional car.
  • We researched many different types of equipment
so we could choose the best for our final design.
  • We also researched the best places to get the
    materials.

Timeline Continued
9
Potential Solutions
  • Motors model with 2 to 10hp that can reach 35mph
or a model with 6 to 28hp that can reach up to
    70mph
  • Disc Brakes or the modified brake system as seen
    on Carls HMV
  • Solar panels 4 by 4 wired together or one
    large panel of solar cells
  • Gears small gear on motor and large on wheel or
the large gear on motor and small on wheel

10
Potential Solutions
11
Final Solution
  • ½ square tubing for a lighter load
  • Large rear section for necessary equipment
  • 100 4 by 4 panels 50v

12
Brakes
  • Simple, yet effective
  • Push pedal
  • From last year, we know that this braking system
will allow us to stop in the required 50 feet at
    15 mph
