Project Outline

• To directly serve the community i.e. BUILD A
  HOUSE!
• Develop a collaboration between U of R and
  Habitat for Humanity
• Societal Change for Public Health
• Learn about the factors/roadblocks involved with
  urban renewal

Work Accomplished

• Environmental Change Worked on three houses on
  Fulton Ave, Rochester, NY
• Learned new life skills insulation, dry wall,
  cement pouring.
• Partnership Put members of U of R community in
  contact with Habitats Director

• Outreach Met members of the community as we
  built their new houses
• Policy Learned mechanics of urban renewal at
  City Hall, Department of Housing

• An abandoned home on Fulton St.

Before (2)

• A building on Fulton St. next to a Habitat
  building site. This structure was a known
  location of drug dealing and prostitution. It
  was destroyed in a fire before it was scheduled
  for demolition

• An example of a home sponsored by a local
  business. Hopes for a similar sponsorship from
  groups with the School of Medicine
