Early Life
  • Harriet was born into slavery in 1819 or 1820 in
    Dorcester County, Maryland.
  • Both of Harriets parents were slaves.
  • At age 25, Harriet married John Tubman, a free
    African American.

Harriets Escape
  • After her marriage, Harriet began to fear that
    she would be sold South.
  • She was aided in her escape by an existing
    Underground Railroad.
  • Put in a wagon and covered with a sack, Harriet
    was smuggled to Philadelphia, PA.
