Constitutional Amendments
  • Bylaws, Section I.1Finance Committee
  • The Finance Committee shall set a due date each
spring for charters to turn in their budget
requests based on the SAFC deadlines for GPSGs
final budget. They shall notify the Senate of
this due date at least one month in advance.
  • After receiving and reviewing budget requests
from charters, the Finance Committee shall be
empowered to present to the Senate options for
budgetary guidelines for that fiscal year.
  • Bylaws, Section JTreasury Laws
  • The GPSG Accounting Clerk and Treasurer will
conduct a mandatory treasury meeting at the
beginning of each semester all chartered
organizations must send their treasurer or other
qualified representative. The Fall meeting may
cover such topics as SAFC Orientation and use of
GPSG expenditure forms the Spring meeting may
    cover Budget planning and guidelines.
  • Bylaws, Article IV, Section IVolunteer
    Representation.
  • In order to remain a charter in good standing
with GPSG, each charter must volunteer for
GPSG-level events or projects no less than two
times per academic year. This volunteer
requirement may be fulfilled by having a member
of your charter serve as a GPSG officer, serve on
one of the GPSG committees, volunteer at Fall or
Spring Orientation, the Graduate Research Fair,
GPSG fundraisers, or any other event designated
by the GPSG Officers as needing volunteers. The
    GPSG Secretary shall track volunteer
    participation.

Finance Committee Business
  • Sharing moneyto reconcile your accounts, you can
offer funds that will not be spent to other
graduate students/orgs. We do not want to revert
    funds!
  • Psychology -- 400 NOT YET FUNDED
  • Info Tech -- 400 NOT YET FUNDED
  • Arts Administration -- 250 NOT YET FUNDED
  • A math student would also like to travel their
funds are all spent. Total estimated expenses
    492.00.

9
Next Years Budget
  • SAFC awarded us 86,000. This is 13.2 less than
what we asked for but about 8 more than this
year. We were awarded some funds above the
student fees contributed by graduate students.
  • Options for bringing our budget within these
    figures
  • After allowing for GPSGs fixed expenditures, cut
    everyone by 15.9
  • Leave those groups who asked for less than 8
increase alone and cut the rest of the budgets to
    reach the 86,000 allotment. (Finance
    Committees recommendation)

Budgets
  • See handout.

Proactive Plans for Getting More Money in Future
Years
  • Next year, we need everyone to keep track of
their groups ACTUAL expenditures, not just those
you use GPSG funds for. Include out-of-pocket
    travel expenditures, travel covered by
    department, other events sponsored by
    fundraisers, charitable expenditures, etc. This
will help us continue to emphasize the difference
between GPSGs needs and what we receive.
  • There are 12 SAFC representativesthis year
Luke/Liza was really the only grad student trying
to justify our budget to 10 or 11 undergrads.
  • One of SAFCs complaints was that GPSG does not
fundraise. Next year it would be a good idea to
have fundraisers to go into GPSGs reserve
accountPanthers games, on campus sales, etc.
  • Corporate sponsorships for conferences? Linda
has some ideas in this area.

12
Finance Committee, cont.
  • Finance Committee will accept suggestions or
comments on allocating the budget until 4/26.
Submit them to caluzon_at_uncc.edu. We will hold a
vote on the budget at our final meeting, May 3.
  • Other budget surplusesabout 900 in GPSG
contracted services line item, mostly from the
research fair. We would like individual charters
to apply for this money if they can use it the
rest can go toward another event for all grad
students. Email Carol if you have an event and
    let her know approximate cost.

13
New Business

reconciling their accounts!!! Do so by next
    Tuesday!!!
  • Any other new business?
  • Motion to Adjourn?

14

    May 3.
