  • The Potential of Community Equipment
  • We know that community equipment services can
play a vital role in helping disabled people of
all ages, including children, to develop their
full potential and to maintain their health and
    independence.
  • It is now acknowledged that community equipment
can also play a significant role in supporting
the wider agenda and this is reflected in the
part that these services can play in strategies
to deliver the National Service Frameworks.

Supporting Services
  • We have been supporting individual community
equipment services with their programmes to
deliver an integrated service as outlined in the
    original DH guidance.
  • This should include
  • health and local authority partnership
    agreements in place
  • where a sole manager (with an advisory board) is
accountable for a pooled fund and unified stock?

  • Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People
  • Self Assessment
  • CEVS
  • Direct payments
  • All are now a reality for the provision of
    equipment. Independent advice is available
through local voluntary sector organisations as
well as a number of disabled living centres
    across the country providing independent
    assessment and advice.

Summary
  • The pooling of skills, knowledge, experience and
funds have proved to be very worthwhile in the
    development of these services.
  • Engaging with partners in the independent and
voluntary sector, health, social care, education
and housing has improved communication and
    response
  • Listening to our users has helped to shape the
