Why?
  • To better align with our mission of preparing
    students for a global and interconnected world
  • To align with the 8th grade curricular theme of
    social justice and injustice
  • To connect to our service learning program
  • To empower students with knowledge that they can
    make a difference
  • To provide an opportunity that students would not
    gain independently

  • Little Rock
  • Central High National Historic Site Museum
  • Clinton Presidential Center
  • Heifer International
  • Headquarters
  • Heifer Ranch Global Challenge Program

Who?
  • 8th grade students / advisory groups
  • Five chaperones each weekend
  • Heifer Ranch staff
  • Mr. Yohman will travel every weekend
  • Mrs. Colpitts, Mrs. Burrows, Mr. Rothe are
    additional chaperones

When?
  • Fall of 2009, over three weekends
  • Friday Monday
  • September 18 21
  • September 25 28
  • October 2 5
  • Will work with athletic schedules as best as we
    can

  • Air travel from RDU to LIT
  • Charter Bus
  • To and from the airport
  • Around Little Rock
  • Car on the premises

Cost?
  • 460 includes the following
  • Air travel
  • Camp fee
  • Students will need money for lunch on Friday and
    personal purchases
  • Limited financial aid is available

What is the Global Challenge Program?
  • Combines two experiences
  • Team-building exercises, including a ropes course
  • Global Gateway experience
  • Three nights
  • Two in the Heifer Bunk Barn (Heifer Hilton!)
  • One in the Global Village

What team-building activities are included?
  • Environmental and hunger related issues
  • Globally themed team-building initiatives
  • Communication, critical thinking and group
    cooperation skills
  • Self-discovery

What is the Global Gateway program like?
  • Students
  • Experience daily struggles people in poverty face
    everyday
  • are given little and must cook meals
  • gain an understanding of the complications
    surrounding hunger and poverty
  • see their connection in creating change that
    brings possibility and hope to millions around
    the world

What is the Global Village?
  • Replications of homes in various countries
  • Guatemala, Thailand, Urban Dwelling, Appalachian,
    Refugee Camp
  • Students are randomly chosen for a location
  • Work together

  • Edutopia, George Lucas Foundation
  • A Night in the Global Village Role-Playing Life
    in Poverty

What do parents need to do?
  • Be excited and supportive!
  • Share the excitement with your children.
  • Plan ahead.
  • Inform Mrs. Colpitts of conflicts with certain
    dates
