Anorexia
  • Anorexia is an eating disorder in which the
    individual does not intake enough calories to
    promote normal body functioning
  • It is most common during adolescence but a
    growing number of cases are being reported in
    youth and adults
  • In order to be diagnosed they must be 15 their
    normal body weight and have the cognitive aspects
    that go with the disease
  • It is considered and anxiety disorder and seems
    to be a western phenomena

Anorexia contd
  • Ten percent of anorexia patients will die from
    their illness
  • Anorexia can be the result of
  • Not eating
  • Taking laxatives
  • Excessive exercise
  • Etcetera
  • Most anorexics are female but there are cases of
    males

Bulimia
  • Bulimia is caused by binge eating followed by
    inappropriate means of ridding yourself of the
    food (may also occur without binging and in
    combination with anorexia)
  • Bulimia is an anxiety disorder
  • it tends to be a western phenomena
  • Side effects yellow, rotting teethbad
    breathscraped handsbut they may not always
    appear too thin
  • Most cases are female but there are cases of males

Binge Eating
  • Characterized by periods of over eating and loss
    of control (anxiety related)
  • Sufferers tend to be overweight
  • Seems to appear in women about 2/3 of the time as
    opposed to 1/3 men
