The Horizontal Axis consists of 4 Blocks which
deal with the following
  • Womens Right
  • Social

1.Womens Right Block
  • Variables
  • CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all forms
    of Discrimination Against Women)
  • Reservation for some countries who believe that
    some of the clauses are not relevant to them,e.g.
    the Muslim Law
  • Culture and Religion change
  • Other Islamic countries have ratified without any
    reservations

Optional Protocol
  • Complaints Procedure
  • e.g if a woman feels that her rights are not
    respected in her own country, she can go outside
    her country- on an international level- and take
    the Government of her own country to Court, for
    abusing her rights.
  • Have to prove that it does not work in your
    country
  • Needs resources and social support
  • Women has to be empowered enough

  • 15 out of 53 African countries have ratified the
    protocol
  • This protocol makes provision for all harmful
    practices
