• Historians and Historiography of Modern China
  explores changes in historical thought as well as
  the practice of historiography from the year 1900
  up until 1930. During this period of thirty
  years, traditional Chinese historiography
  underwent perhaps the greatest changes it had in
  history thus far, and all aspects of historyfrom
  the definition, scope, materials, and
  explanations as well as the methods and tools of
  history to the type of language employed to write
  historyunderwent changes of a fundamental
  nature. Historians and Historiography of Modern
  China centers around the themes and ideas
  mentioned above, using a five chapter format in
  its investigation of the various changes taking
  place in historiography in the early 20th
  century. The first three chapters of the work
  deal with the formation of a new historiography
  in China. The last two chapters explain that even
  the conservative or conventional historians of
  the 1900 to 1930 period could not remain
  completely aloof from the major changes of the
  time, and that, thus, their historical works have
  come to evince a more complicated cultural
  significance.
