Essential Learning Outcomes for Literacy

• Students will be able to identify letters and
  recognize their corresponding sounds in the
  beginning, ending and medial consonant positions.
  
• Students will be able to decode words containing
  short vowels and common word families.
• Students will be able to decode words containing
  consonant blends in beginning and ending
  positions.
• Students will be able to decode words containing
  long vowel and common word families.
• Students will be able to decode words containing
  digraphs.

Essential Learning Outcomes for Literacy

• Students will be able to use cueing systems
  independently in a variety of reading materials
  including semantic, syntactic and visual cues.
• Students will be able to read the first 100 high
  frequency words.
• Students will be able to read orally with
  accuracy and expression.
• Students will be able to retell a fiction story
  orally and/or in writing or by using pictures in
  sequential order.
• Students will apply comprehension strategies to
  stories read aloud by teacher and to their own
  reading in context.
• Using a rubric as a guideline, students will be
  able to develop a written paragraph that includes
  5 sentences focused on a given topic with
  supportive details.
• Students will use proper letter formation and
  conventions of print such as punctuation and
  upper and lowercase letters.
