Title: Wind Turbine Installation
1Wind Turbine Installation
2Why and Wind Turbine ? During Summer 2005,
started to review additional environmental
options Always been looking at new ways to
manage the environment Open to Prevailing wind
- South Westerly Located at 103 meters above sea
level
3Initial Concerns- Rural Location Noise Stanste
d Airport Planning permission
What did we do ? Research Internet Magazines
Papers Government info
Result of Research- Why did we want a wind
turbine ?
4SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT MAKE LOTS OF MONEY FREE
ELECTRICITY WAY OF LIFE / GREEN IMAGE GUARANTEED
POWER SUPPLY
Use an untapped resources to supply power without
increasing environmental impact. Giving long term
environmental and cost benefit
There is NO single technology What is best for
your location and situation ?
Would we have undertaken the project if no grant
was available.
YES
5- Criteria for the turbine
- Wind turbine to supply power
- Must be large enough to supply meaningful power
- Export excess back to grid
- Must be able to supply power if mains failure.
- No batteries / storage
- Situated close to own buildings
- Limited or no change in the current supply
equipment
Discounted all turbines below 3 kW
output Selected 5 - 10 kW as the best option for
our site
6- Selection of companies
- All achieved from the internet searches.
- No contact with any previous installations.
- Visited presentation evenings on renewables.
- Wanted a company that would
- Be prepared to work together to develop the
project - Provide details for the planning application
- Give guidance for the electrical installation
- Supply guidance on the import / export
requirements - Could supply good after sales service
- Two companies selected to obtain information
- Proven
- Segen
7- Electricity Buy Back
- Most supply companies advertise green energy.
- All want to sell you electricity.
- Tell them you want a buy back agreement and
- Who is the District Network Operator ?
- No commitment to buy back from anyone but EDF
- Our local DNO
- What is required
- A buy back agreement.
- An Independent Export Meter.
- Correct Supply from turbine.
-
8- Wind Speed Data
- Information from the DTI website
- Enter Map reference
- Wind effected by
- Trees / Buildings / Turbulent air
