  • Sean Easterwood is featured in JET Magazine
  • The May 5th article highlights the Central High
    School debate student, Sean Easterwood, shown
    with Scott Detheridge, a new executive director
    of the National Association of Urban Debate
    Leagues. Sean was the top speaker at the National
    Urban Debate tournament in Chicago.
  • Van Horn High Vocalist Makes District Finals
  • Van Horn High School celebrated its Grand Finale
    Concert On Thursday, May 8, with Jazmine Magill
    performing The River is Wide. Jazmine was a top
    finalist in District and State vocalist
    competitions.

  • The Kansas City Star honored several Kansas City,
    Missouri School District student athletes in its
    25th annual Scholar-Athlete class. KCMSD honorees
    in its Sunday, May 4th, 2008 edition are

  • Manual students wins scholarships to
    MCC-PennValley 
  • Juan Escutia, Diamond Davis-Kyles and Sami Al
    Shimaily have been awarded the Board of Trustees
    scholarships from Metropolitan Community College.
    The students will use those scholarships to
    attend MCC-Penn Valley.
  • The value of this scholarship is up to 5,248.

  • Lincoln College Preparatory Academy
  • Lincoln Prep has accepted its Gold Star Award in
    Jefferson City.  The school was honored in a
    special PowerPoint presentation, as well as a
    commemorative booklet. Lincoln Prep was also
    presented with a plaque that is currently on
    display in the schools office.

  • C-Span to visit Lincoln College Prep 
  • A touring bus from the C-Span cable network will
    visit Lincoln College Prep on Friday, May 16,
    2008 as part of its Road to the White House
    tour. The 45-foot mobile production studio is on
    the campaign trail of the Presidential candidates
    and offers a variety of resources for educators,
    students, and first-time voters.
  • High school and middle school students will tour
    the bus from 9 AM3PM

  • KCMSD at the Brookside Art Annual
  • The Humanities Department of the Kansas City,
    Missouri School District sponsored its annual
    art fair on May 23 in conjunction with that of
    the Brookside Art Annual. Each school in the
    district was represented. The Satchel Paige
    Elementary School Choir also sang at the Fair on
    Friday.

  • Literary Festival Participation Enrollment
    Fairs
  • Sharon Robinson, noted author and daughter of
    baseball legend Jackie Robinson, and District
    teachers will appear on a panel discussion during
    the Literary Festival. The event is from 830 to
    10 a.m. Saturday at the Kauffman Foundation, 4801
    Rockhill Road.
  • The panel discussion is Saturday, May 17, from
    830 a.m. to 10 am.
  • The Festival is outside and open to the public,
    10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Festival features creative exhibits with books,
    materials, and the KCMSD enrollment booth.
