3The Course Requirements
- Required for all deployable EOLs.
- Sixty (60) hours over six (6) days.
- Requires independent study by students to
accomplish eight (8) required readings and prep
for a ten (10) minute small group presentation. - Students must pass four (4) quizzes and one
comprehensive exam with a minimum of 70 on each.
4Course Requirements
- A minimum of ten (10) students to effectively
teach and get the full benefit of the practical
exercises. - Requires small group facilitation.
- Recommended instructor-student ratio of
one(1)seven(7). - All instructors/facilitators/trainers must be
DEOMI certified EOAs.
5Scheduling the Course
- Students must attend all scheduled classes to
receive certification. - By exception and approval by the primary
instructor a student may miss no more than
three (3) hours before losing certification. - Recommend starting the course on a Sunday with
graduation on the following Friday, thus using
the Saturdays before and after as travel days.

- Recommend scheduling a quiz at the beginning of
days 2, 3, 4, and 5. - Schedule the exam on the morning of the last day.
- Conduct student presentations in small groups to
maximize available time. - Conduct practical exercises in small groups to
maximize student participation.

- Open the course with a supportive dialogue from a
senior commander, TAG, or HRO. - Schedule guest speakers at least twice during the
conduct of the course i.e. someone who has
previously deployed as an EOA, a deployable EOL,
or a commander.

- Capture after action review comments as a class
following the exam. - Recommend a senior commander, TAG, or HRO
participate in graduation and provide closing
remarks. - Recommend publishing a local training schedule
that captures the administrative and logistical
information pertinent to your location.

10Instructor/Facilitator/Trainer Selection
- Have each instructor/trainer/facilitator provide
a copy of DA 1059 from DEOMI supporting
certification as an EOA. - Individual must be willing to facilitate small
group instruction. - Recommend individual completes an instructor
training course. - Select individuals with various ranks (officer,
warrant officer and enlisted).

- Try to avoid death by power point.
- Use PE, videos and guest speakers to emphasize
learning objectives and stimulate conversation. - Schedule small group interactions at least once
every day. - Instructor team approach allows for sharing of
personal experiences.

- Prepare training certificates for each student.
- Prepare DA 1059 for each student. The DA 1059
will become the official document in the
Soldiers mob file to validate his/her
certification as a deployable EOL. - Recognize top 20 of class as honor graduates
and top student as distinguished graduate.
