2Cheese Factory Brief Description The proposal is
to develop two dairy farms, in the Normandien
district (Newcastle Local Municipality) with
enough capacity to sustain a cheese factory. It
is important to emphasise that the quality of
cheese is extremely dependant on the quality of
raw milk produced, and the ideal situation is to
begin processing the product immediately after
milking, this can only be achieved if the factory
is adjacent to the main milking parlour. Savings
will also be made on transport cost and storage
facilities. The current dairy farms identified
are each capable of producing 10 000 litres per
day. The factory capacity however will be planned
for a greater capacity with the potential for
expansion, so that further dairy farms can be
accommodated thus bringing the production up to
the factory capacity of 60 000 litres per day
The co-op will be the owner of both the farms and
the factory. Membership of the co-op will be
divided between /- 30 farm employees and the two
farm owners, who will provide management
expertise and mentorship. Project Opportunities

Description This project emanates from the need
to produce various type of vegetables such as
cucumbers , cherry tomatoes , peppers . The
shareholding will comprise of 25 BEE , 25
Management , 25 Investors and 25 Newco. The
project will be developed to cater for the
controlled production of vegetables to supply the

the production of vegetables will eventually be
aimed at the broader market outside of the
district such as The Dube tradeport. The Techno
Park will be established in close proximity of
the Newcastle Airport and the Amajuba Regional
Agric. Hub. It is envisaged that the project be
developed over three years. The Techno Park will
be professionally managed and space in the park
will be rented out to farmers who wish to partake
in the project this also ensures skills transfer.
This ensures high control and high quality
control in accordance with HACCP requirements.
This will ensure that the project is sustainable
and will expose our emerging farmers to export
markets. Full feasibility and business plan is
available. The project has attracted interest
with investors who are willing to invest equity
in the project. Project Opportunities

4Manufacturing of High Quality Texturised Soya
Products Brief Description Being situated in
South Africa's biggest soy producing area
(KwaZulu-Natal) it is very obvious that the
natural environment and climate and local human
resources cant be successfully utilized. The
production involves smaller farmers (in
co-operation with the local farmers
Associations) in producing GMO and non-GMO grown
soybeans for processing within an organized
structure. Seed will be made available to
these farmers on an organized basis. On
harvesting of these crops, the soy will be
purchased from them again by the processors (at
approximately double the price per ton than that
of maize, depending on SAFEX prices). In order
to secure a next crop, the farmers will receive
coupons - to be exchanged for seed again next
season. Both smaller and commercial farmers
prefer planting soybeans to maize, therefore
eliminating the theft factor. Soy has also
proven to be an excellent crop rotation
alternative as it helps maintain nitrogen levels
in the soil after being harvested. The unique
functional property of soy proteins to undergo
transformation into meat-like texture by
thermoplastic extrusion has already been
discussed. This is the basis for the largest use
of soy protein as a food ingredient. Various
types of textured soy protein are produced with
different particle size, density, shape, color
and added flavors. At present, the hamburger
used in the school lunch program in public
schools in the United States incorporates 30
percent by weight of textured soy protein. These
products are also used as partial replacement of
meat in soup mixes and for simulation of meat
particles in dips, crackers and snacks. The fine
particles of texturised soy protein are used as
meat conditioners in beef and pork patties where
the effect is easy "release" from the patty
making equipment. The so-called meat analogs in
themselves provide a source of relatively
inexpensive protein with textural and flavor
characteristics similar to those of meat. South
Africa is currently one of the very few countries
that does have the ability to regulate the
planting and use GMO (Genetically Manipulated
Organisms)-seed. This is the most influential
contributing factor towards the exploration of
the TVP export market, especially to Euro
countries. In addition, the recent infection of
the agricultural system with "Mad Cow -" and
"Foot-and-Mouth disease in several European
countries, contributed extremely favorable to the
opportunities re the export market for TVP. This
product would have the further advantage of being
mechanically processed, and not by means of
chemical extraction. The range of products
envisioned are Soy Milk , Soy Flour , Tofu , Miso
, Tempeh. This ensures high control and high
quality control in accordance with HACCP
requirements. This will ensure that the
project is sustainable and will expose our
emerging farmers to export markets. Full
feasibility and business plan is available. The
project has attracted interest with investors who
are willing to invest equity in the project.

5Amajuba Regional Agricultural Hub Brief
Description The project is a partnership between
the Newcastle Municipality, Amajuba District
Municipality and the Private sector. The
proposed Regional Agri-Hub would centrally locate
a multi-modal logistics platform within
Newcastle, allowing for efficient transport
linkages to the ports of Durban, Richards Bay and
the proposed DUbe Trade Port. The site is ideally
located halfway between Durban Container Terminal
and City Deep in terms of the main logistic route
between these two nodes expands the use of rail
in port distribution, reducing the reliance on
trucks. The existing marshalling yard is
available as development site. The hub will
increase warehousing capabilities and improves
hinterland operations by incorporating truck-stop
facilities, container cranes and gantries,
terminal stacking and rail. . The project has
been designed with 100 BEE involvement. Formal
discussions with Dube Trade Port Company and

6Amajuba Mining Opportunities Brief
Description Amajuba District Municipality has
embarked on pre-feasibility studies in the
district to establish whether coal mining is
viable. The pre-feasibility shows that several
mines and related opportunities exist within the
district. Amajuba has secured prospecting rights
for certain areas and is currently investigating
possible markets for the coal. It is envisaged
that these rights will be transferred to
interested operators meeting the Amajuba District
selection criteria. The focus of these projects
is aimed at empowerment and job creation.
