1. Catholic Ethos - Aims
  • To build an understanding of what it means to be
    part of a Catholic Community in all who are part
    of our school.
  • To support and develop the religious nature of
    the school and promote the well being of all
    staff.

Key Actions - Catholic Ethos
  • Continue to develop the work of the Chaplaincy
    Team at St Bernards
  • Look to develop the Well Being programme in
    school (SPIES)
  • Develop community through embedding the central
    role of the Form Tutor and building positive
    relations with pupils and their families.

2. Teaching and Learning - Aims
  • To increase the impact of teaching on learners
    progress
  • To improve the quality of Teaching and the
    Learning Opportunities for pupils
  • Increased pupil engagement and enjoyment of
    lessons
  • Overall Success Criteria
  • 80 of teaching good or better
  • 100 of teaching satisfactory or better

  • Enable greater consistency when assessing and
    reporting pupil progress so that we know that we
    are being effective.
  • Develop a more coherent approach to assessment
    across the school that will help to maximise
    pupil progress

  • Monitor impact of use of data on teaching and
    learning
  • Monitor progress against targets and
    implementation of appropriate curriculum
    strategies
  • Identify patterns in performance and how progress
    of specific groups and individuals will be
    monitored
  • Enable departments to record and track pupil
    attainment more easily using ICT beginning with
    KS3

4. Curriculum Development Aims
  • To develop the curriculum to ensure that what we
    offer meets the needs of our pupils so that they
    can be well prepared for the next stage of their
    lives

  • Investigate additional AS Courses Media and
    Sociology to run from Sept 08
  • Prepare for development of ICT Diploma
  • Achieve Science College Status - SEF 1b
  • Look for opportunities to increase Work Related
    Learning (WRL) at St Bernards - SEF 3c
  • Develop a bank of resources from each department
    to engage students in lessons
  • Review the level of support for (EAL) Polish
    pupils and their families. Seek additional
    external funding
  • Prepare for new National Curriculum
  • Evaluate role and future impact of
    Vocational/Adult courses such as Btec ALaN

5. Developing Partnerships - Aim
  • To build positive relationships within school and
    with the wider community

Key Actions Developing Partnerships
  • Develop student role in decision making around
    school and help them to implement policies and
    ideas of their own
  • Conduct second Keele Survey to monitor progress
  • Investigate with parents and pupils alternatives
    to parent evenings we currently offer
  • Utilise school website to aid communication with
    parents and other organisations
  • Appoint new Business Manager within school and
    look to develop partnerships within the local
    business community
