3Mission
- The mission of ISIS is to support EU policies
with systems oriented research in areas where
safety and security are of concern. Its prime
objectives are to develop techniques for the
assessment of risk in complex systems and to
apply information, communication and engineering
technologies for improving their reliability,
safety and security.
4ISIS fields of activity
- security and reliability in the information
society - safety of building structures and means of
transport and the protection of cultural heritage - safeguarding against the proliferation of nuclear
materials - safety aspects of nuclear energy
- fight against fraud
- emergency management and decision support systems
5The Mission of the JRC
- To provide customer-driven scientific and
technical support for the conception,
implementation and monitoring of EU policies. - As a service of the European Commission, the JRC
functions as a centre of science and technology
(S/T) reference for the Union. Close to the
policy-making process, it serves the common
interest of the Member States, while being
independent of special interests, private or
national. - To carry out its mission,
- the JRC has a unique combination of facilities
and expertise transcending national boundaries.
Moreover through its networks it stimulates
collaborative research and broadens its knowledge
base.
