1Using the Blackboard Discussion Board
- A Discussion Board is a communication tool that
enables users to post and reply to messages
related to a specific topic. Conversations are
logged and organized in a tree-like structure
providing easy access to information. -
- This guide will demonstrate how to access and use
subject-specific forums to help foster dialogue
and collaboration among the NDSP liaisons.
2How to Access Discussion Board
Click on the Discussion Board link
3Opening a Discussion Board Forum
The discussion board page will appear. A list of
available forums are displayed. Forums are
topics that are created by the leader of the
community. To view threads or add a reply in a
forum, participants should click on the forum
link.
4Reading Threads
- Click on the title of a thread to read an
individual posting.
5The thread will expand. The text message is
located in the second box, below the list of
threads.
Click on the Next Thread link to forward to the
next message.
6Reading Multiple Threads
- You can view multiple threads simultaneously.
- Check the box next to the threads that you wish
to read. - Click the select icon in the top menu
7Viewing Multiple Threads
- The collection of threads will expand.
8Replying to a Thread
Participants can respond to threads by clicking
on the Reply button.

Click on the thread icon to add a new thread to
a forum
Type a subject title and a message in the
appropriate textboxes. Click Submit.

11Adding Attachments to a Thread
- Type in a title in the Subject line.
- Add your message in the text boxes area.
- To attach a file, scroll down to attach a file
text box, click on the Browse button, locate your
file on your computer. - Click Open. The file name will appear in the
textbox. - When finished, click the submit button at the
bottom of the screen.
12Subscribe to the Forum
- You can receive an automatic email notification
of any updates to a Discussion Forum. -
- To subscribe, click on the Subscribe icon
located in the forum menu.
