Technological Development

• FP7 is the program that covers all research
  related European Union Initiatives under one roof
  with the goals of growth, competitiveness and
  employment.
• Israel joined FP4 in 1996 as the first non-EU
  participating country. This is now the 2nd
  biggest funding source for Israeli universities.
  This is a major source of more direct involvement
  with Europe.
• Israel is considered an Associated Country.

IDEAS (ERC) has 4 different funding schemes, 2
are brand new!

• ERC focuses on the individual researcher as the
  chief scientific resource. The original two
  tracks were for Starting and Advanced
  researchers.
• Now ERC has introduced Synergy programme which
  aims to form small groups of exceptional
  researchers to do cross-disciplinary work.
• ERC Proof of Concept has been announced to help
  researchers who have already been awarded ERC
  grants to develop an idea from their research to
  the pre-demonstration phase.

Capacities focuses on strengthening the research
capacities of Europe

• Research Infrastructures aims to optimize the use
  and development of the best existing research
  infrastructures.
• SME action aims to strengthen the 'innovation
  capacity' of small and medium-sized enterprises
  (SMEs) in Europe and their contribution to the
  development of new technology based products and
  markets.
• Science in Society aims to stimulate the
  harmonious integration of scientific and
  technological endeavor and associated research
  policies into European society.
