    brain.  These elements stand out from other
    features of our body.

What are TEXT FEATURES??
  • Text features are a very valuable and important
    feature to any reading
  • Books contain common features that readers can
    recognize and use to help them understand the
    information being presented
  • These are called Text Features and their purpose
    is help us understand the information presented.

TABLE OF CONTENTS
  • The Table of Contents in a book lists the title,
    number and page numbers of all the chapters in a
    content book.
  • They can be used to find information quickly.

Headings and Subheadings
  • Headings and subheadings visually show readers
    how the ideas are organized within the text.
  • Each heading should accurately tell readers what
    each section covers.
  • In addition, bolding and using different font
    sizes help readers locate the information they
    need.

GLOSSARY
  • Short list of words related to a specific topic,
    with brief definitions, arranged alphabetically
    and often placed at the end of a book.

  • Indexes help you to quickly locate pieces of
    information about a topic which are scattered
    around a number of resources.
  • If you go to the index of a book, it will tell
    you what pages of the book refer to a concept
    listed in the indexes.

Captions for Photographs
  • Captions are the little headlines
  • the words describing the photograph
  • First,  the reader looks at the photo, mentally
    capturing all or most of the most obvious visual
    information available.
  • When that look at the photo sparks any interest,
    the reader typically looks just below the photo
    for information that helps explain the photo
