Palm sugar production is a long tradition of
Kampong Speu province. This areas sandy soils
and low rainfalls combine with the know-how of
producers, make Kampong Speu Palm Sugar
particularly tasty, concentrated and
aromatic. These specific characteristics provide
notoriety to the product on the market and among
consumers.

Current development toward the improvement of
supply chains system
- GI management organization (KSPA) established,
capacity building of the management committee is
going on - Reinforcement of the quality improvement amongst
all members enable them to follow the BoS - The quality control system established, the auto
control (control made by producers and processors
themselves) and internal control by KSPA are
implementing

Current development toward the improvement of
supply chains system
- A specific study was conducted on the market of
packaged and labeled palm sugar products - Action-research is conducting to find the ways
for improving packaging and labeling of Kampong
Speu palm sugar as GI product - KSPA is playing a communication and coordination
role in liking producers to new distributors in
selling out their products

Immediate Action Plan toward the improvement of
supply chains system
- Proceed for official registration of Kampong Speu
Palm Sugar as a PGI product under the ministerial
Prakas /decree (issued on 18/05/09) - Communication and promotion campaign to raise
public awareness on afford done so far
establishment of KSPA, quality improvement and
control following the BoS, GI legal framework and
the product protection (once registered) - Identifying and contracting with an appropriate
and eligible control and certification body. - Establishment of producer cooperative for
commercializing their products
