Motto An Adams Owl is safe,
responsible, and respectful.
4
Goal
  • Adams Elementary will significantly decrease the
number of behavior infractions and increase
student engagement in order to better meet the
    needs of all our students.

5
Rationale
  • This goal was determined by data that showed
Adams Elementary had the highest number of
    disruptive behavior referrals district wide.
  • Structure and consistency in our literacy model
have resulted in huge gains for our students
    despite our low SES level.
  • The same structure and consistency could transfer
to a schoolwide behavior plan that would create
    equal success for our students.
  • A positive behavior plan would increase students
    on task and instructional/learning time.

6
Data indicators
  • Prior to implementation of a school wide positive
behavior plan, Adams Elementary was on track to
meet or exceed the previous years total of 705
    behavior infractions.

7
Trends and changes in data indicators
  • As per the data comparison from last school year
to this school year, there has been a significant
reduction in the number of behavior infractions
    reported by refocus referrals.
  • Initially the only data compared were month to
month from the previous year to the current year
comparisons and each months comparisons within
    the current year
  • During our first year, Adams Elementarys UBI
team realized the need for data on where and when
behavior infractions were taking place in order
to target these areas and for data on attendance
and tardies. So, data began to be reported and
    analyzed accordingly.

Behavior Infractions by Location for November
2007 and March 2008
9
Implementation
  • Understanding UBI and positive behavior plans
  • Developing an action plan, schoolwide
expectations, and a concise Adams Owl motto to
    fit Adams Elementary.
  • Principal requested team members to volunteer.
Through shared data, partial expectations and
incentives already in place, faculty could
readily see the need for a structured and
consistent positive behavior plan for sustained
    success for more students.
  • Training of faculty and incentives have
    encouraged staff continue to participate
    over-time.
  • Several teachers trained in Power Teaching and
shared with faculty strategies for increasing
    student engagement through kinesthetic, oral,
    teaching strategies.
  • Sources of data came from the refocus referrals
of behavior infractions. A Data Tracker was
purchased in order to better facilitate data
    analysis.
  • Implemented 200 club and incentives.

Plans for adjustment
  • Initial staff training to be done in August,
    including all teachers, specialists,
    paraprofessionals, and lunch staff.
  • Initial student training and implementation of
the 200 Club to be done in August.
  • Schedule re-teaching of students and staff more
    frequently throughout the school year.
  • Develop second year action plan over the summer.
  • Analyze more closely and take action on data
provided by location, attendance, and tardies.

15
Discussion
  • Overall, Adams Elementary had a very successful
    first year.
  • Faculty saw a need and followed through in the
implementation of a schoolwide behavior plan with
    fidelity.
  • The UBI Team was appreciative that there was no
need to reinvent strategies. The team was able to
adapt ideas, strategies, incentives, and plans
already in place in other schools to fit our
    schools specific needs and goals.
