Pre-ID Review and Optional Group Sort for
Delivery of Test Materials
Window opens from December 8- January 15, 2010
December 9, 2009
2The pre-identification (Pre-ID) of student test
booklets, for state assessments, is required for
the 20092010 school year. Pre-identification
helps ensure that test scores are attributed to
the correct student. It is critical that school
districts verify the grade level placement (based
on district policy) of all students for
pre-identification of test booklets. The
following Pre-ID files will be sent to our
service providers at different times throughout
the year. The data used will come from the most
recent Comprehensive Educational Data And
Research System (CEDARS) data submitted by school
districts to OSPI.

create data extracts in Excel from each
districts most recent CEDARS submission. There
will be one file for each tested grade level.
These extracts will include all students
identified in CEDARS as enrolled in Grades 38
and 10. Grade assignment must be based on
district policy. For future reference save a
copy of each extract to a secure location.
4Sort Options for Delivery of State Testing
Materials (Optional)
- December 8 - January 15 the HSPE Pre-ID Records
application will be available in WAMS. Once your
district has submitted your most recent CEDARS
data (after December 8), OSPI will provide the
Pre-ID extract for district review. - These extracts may be appended with subject group
names in order to provide an identifiable
characteristic by which test booklets will be
sorted, packaged and shipped to districts.
Applying a specific group sort may help when
distributing test booklets to schools/proctors. - If you do not wish to sort booklets by group
name, you do not need to download, append or
upload files. Districts should, however, verify
their Pre-ID files in WAMS. - NOTE Sort option for delivery of Individual
Score Reports is determined by the Group Header
Process. Refer to the Key Dates calendar for
dates. - Dec. 8, 2009 Jan. 15, 2010 Window to apply
sort options for grade 10 (Reading/Writing/Math/Sc
ience) - Jan. 19 Feb. 12, 2010 Second window to apply
sort options for grade 10 (Math/Science) - Feb. 15 March 12, 2010 Window to apply sort
options for grades 38
5Pre-ID and Sort Options Download Students
Districts choose which grade levels or schools
by downloading the Pre-ID records extract and
appending with your desired sort. If any fields
are left blank, the default sort for test booklet
delivery will be alphabetically by school name,
grade level, and then student last name, first
name and middle initial. This opportunity to
add sort fields to your Pre-ID Extract does not
provide the opportunity to change any of the
required student demographic fields. Any changes
to the student demographic fields must be
accomplished through a new CEDARS submission.
Updates in CEDARS will not be reflected in the
Pre-ID file download until the following day.
Refer to the following slides, for step-by-step
instructions, if a unique sort option is desired
for delivery of testing materials.
