Internet Navigation

• Open Internet Explorer to access the Internet
• The tool bar
• Back- returns to the previous page
• Forward- takes you to the next page
• Stop- stops loading the page in progress

Internet Navigation

• Refresh- updates the page you are on
• Home- takes you to the page you have designated
  as home (GCS homepage)
• Print- this button will print the page you are
  viewing.

• Search- this button will take you to a search
  engine where you can find information on any
  topic similar to a librarys card catalogue.
• Favorites- this button allows you to add the
  website you are viewing to a list of those you
  may view frequently.

• The Address Bar
• Http// - Hypertext Transfer Protocol
• www World Wide Web
• Web addresses must be typed in correctly. The
  slightest deviation in spelling, spacing, and
  punctuation will cause the site to not load or
  the incorrect site to load.

GCS Homepage

• The homepage has a number of informational
• sections that can be linked to in the left pane
• including the following that you may frequent.
• Quick Links Tech Staff Dev. Registration
• E-mail- to correspond with colleagues and receive
  news from administrators
• Teacher Resources- you will find several drop
  down menus of links to various sites

Teacher Resources

• Search Engines- use the drop down menu to select
  a search engine. Each of these sites can search
  for any topic.
• DPI Infoweb- this is the state DPIs website.
  Here you can find curriculums, lesson plans and
  testlets as well as information on licensure and
  pay.

Learn NC

• Use the Gaston County Schools homepage or your
  Favorites to locate and load the Learn NC
  website.
• What is Learn NC? What resources does it provide
  to aid educators?

Activity

• From the Learn NC website you will investigate
  the Learn NC Media Center or Lesson Plan Database
  for your grade level and find one resource that
  you can use with your students.
• Bookmark this site in your Favorites or print out
  the resource if the lab allows for printing.
