  • Can be used to visit websites including chat
    rooms
  • Can access internet instantly
  • Can take pictures and video and let you send
    these via email
  • Children need to think carefully before sending
    images of themselves or friends

  • In 1997 there were already 10 million children
    accessing the Internet.
  • The Internet can be a source of terrific
    educational possibilities, and very scary
    situations.
  • Your child can be a pen pal to a 10 year old boy
    in India, or a pen pal to a 48 year old man
    posing as an 11 year old girl.

These are children UNDER 12 years of age.

What Can I Do to Keep My Child Safe?
  • Talk with your children about their internet use
  • Nothing in life is 100 safe all the time, and
    the internet is no different
  • Parental control is really
  • a MUST.

How can you see where they have been?
  • Set up the Internet History
  • Open the Internet
  • Go to Tools/Internet Options
  • Make sure the Days to keep pages in history
    setting is fairly high

  • If you suspect your child has accessed
    inappropriate areas, check the history
  • Click on the History Icon (this may look
    different on other systems)
  • Check the sites listed-make sure they are
    familiar and appropriate

    and weeks.

What is Cyber Bullying?
"Cyberbullying" is when a child is tormented,
threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or
otherwise targeted by another child using the
Internet, interactive and digital technologies or
mobile phones.

What Can You Do About Cyber Bullying?
  • Do not respond to rude or harassing emails.
  • Keep copies of all emails for proof and contact
    your local law inforcement or ISP if necessary.
  • Use web sites that translate the lingo your
    children are sending and receiving.
  • Block harassing emails
  • Delete their current account and open a new one.
    The new address should only be given to a few
    trusted people.
