History of RH
  • Richard Rodgers began his career in 1920 working
    with Lorenz Hart.
  • When Hart passed away in 1943 Rodgers began work
    with Oscar Hammerstein who was known for his work
    in operettas.
  • Hammerstein passed away in 1960.
  • Rodgers continued his writing until 1979.

  • Born in 1930
  • Began work in 1957 as the lyricist for West Side
    Story.
  • A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
    was his first work as a composer/lyricist.
  • Known for his dense lyrics, unpredictable
    melodies, and difficult accompaniment.
  • His music has been put into its own style, or
    genre of musical theatre.
