Part 2 Visas Under article
5.8 of the UK Entry Clearance Guidance, visiting
Forces members are exempt of the entrance
clearance procedure however, dependants are not
exempt. Essentially, this means that all
dependants, who will accompany the member to the
UK, and who will live in the UK for at least 6
mths, require UK visas. Although CF members are
exempt, we strongly recommend that all members
complete an online application to request a visa.
Members who have a UK visa inserted in their
passport will find that travel in and out of the
UK, especially at Passport Control, will be free
from delays. If your passport does not contain a
UK visa, each time you enter the UK you may be
asked to show your posting message or carry other
documentation to prove why you are living
here. Obtaining UK visas is a process consisting
of an online application followed by a hardcopy
application and supporting documentation. The
next 26 slides will walk you through the visa
process however, we ask that you read the
questions and information carefully, as the
British High Commission website, is constantly
changing. Finally, all costs associated with
obtaining visas will be covered by IRP. To
ensure you receive full reimbursement for any
costs associated with obtaining visas, it is
essential that you retain all receipts.

  • IN CLEARANCE/SOFA STAMP
  • You are to bring your dependants passports
with you during your in clearance/brief. This is
very important, as the AdminO will put in them a
NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) stamp.
  • Because of the requirement for dependants to
have a British Visa before traveling to the UK,
no accompanied HHT will be approved until your
RD Section provides confirmation. Contact the
Detachment Chief Clerk if there are special
    circumstances.
  • NOTE The cost of visas, long form birth
    certificates, provincial marriage certificates,
money order fees, and mailing charges (if not
covered by losing unit) are reimbursable upon
in-clearance. Proof of payment i.e. cancelled
cheque, receipt or photocopy of cheque, must be
brought with you in order to obtain approval and
    processing of this claim.
