• The children will make predictions about the book
  from the cover.
• We will read the book Little Polar Bear by Hans
  de Beer.
• After the story the children will name the
  animals the polar bear met and predict if they
  could survive in the Arctic.
• The children will observe a map to discover how
  far Lars traveled from the Arctic to the Tropics.

• The children will brainstorm how polar bears
  survive cold weather and icy water.
• The children will draw pictures of clothing they
  wear to keep warm.
• Each child will share an idea of clothing that
  keeps them warm for the pie chart.

• The teacher will demonstrate making a blubber
  glove.
• Measure one cup of Crisco. Fill ziploc bag with
  cup of Crisco.
• Use a second ziploc bag to place around outside
  of ziploc bag with Crisco in it.

• The students will work in cooperative groups to
  make blubber gloves.
• The teacher will place a bowl of icy water on
  the table.
• The students will measure the temperature of
  the water with a thermometer.
• The students immerse their left hand in icy
  water.
• The students will place right hand in blubber
  glove and immerse in icy water.
