Title: Free Energy For Everyone

1
Free Energy For Everyone
  • Experiments at Colorado Springs
  • By
  • Ryan Kent
  • April 10, 2006

2
The Claim
  • System of Transmission of Electrical Energy,
    patent 645,576 in 1898.
  • It has become possible to transmit electrical
energy through the atmosphere of any amount and
    to any distance
  • Tesla came to the conclusion that it would be
ultimately possible, without any elevated antenna
and very small elevation to break down the upper
stratum of the air and transmit current by
    conduction

3
Teslas Secret Plan
  • Tesla told reporters he was working on sending a
radio transmission from Pikes Peak to Paris
  • Tesla wanted to secretly work on his plan to
    transmit energy through the atmosphere
  • This allowed Marconi to finish his work on the
radio and receive credit for sending the first
    signals long distance with it

4
Who Helped
  • A friend of Teslas, Leonard E. Curtis, who heard
of his endeavor decided to find land and power
    for his experiments.
  • Jacob Astor, another friend provided Tesla with
    30,000 for his project.
  • The engineer Fritz Lowenstein and the mechanic
Kolman Czito as well as many assistants helped
Tesla set up his lab and conduct his work

5
Why Colorado Springs?
  • Frequent Thunder Storms
  • High Altitude (low air pressure so easy to break
up the atmosphere and transmit energy)
  • Dryness of the air, minimized leakage of energy
  • Relatively isolated position

6
The Crazy House
  • Tesla and his assistants created the lab Tesla
    would use for his experiments
  • It consisted of an 80 foot tower with a 142 foot
mast topped by a copper ball
  • Inside was an enormous Tesla Coil consisting of
    multiple air core transformers

Magnifying Transmitter 1899
  • Advanced version of the Tesla Coil.
    (High-voltage, air core, multiple resonant
    transformer)
  • Could produce 3.5-4 million volts (1 million
volts is the typical threshold of lightning)
  • Discharges exceeded 100ft in length
  • One of the most powerful Radio Transmitters ever
    built

Making Waves
  • During his experiments Tesla found stationary
    waves
  • He found that these waves come from one antipode
    of the earth to another
  • Today they are know as ELF (extremely low
    frequency) waves
  • Used the earth to transmit energy several
    kilometers and light neon tubes

12
Master of Lightning
  • To test his theories Tesla had to create
electrical effects on the scale of lightning
  • Using the magnifying transmitter Tesla was able
    to produce this lightning.
  • Bolts shot up from atop the copper ball and could
be heard in Cripple Creek 15 miles away
  • Teslas experiment burned out the dynamo of the
local power plant. No more free power for Tesla.

13
Lightning Fun!
14
Messages from Space
  • In the summer of 1899 Tesla noticed strange
signals appearing on his low frequency radio
    receiver
  • Tesla thought these signals came from intelligent
life on either Mars or Venus
  • The local newspaper had a field day making fun of
    Tesla and his discovery
  • Tesla did in fact detect signals from space,
however these were not from intelligent life but
from the sun and other stars. Tesla created the
    first radio Telescope

15
Did Tesla Succeed?
  • Although Tesla spent 9 months in Colorado Springs
it is unclear as to whether or not he
successfully transmitted wireless power at Pikes
    Peak
  • Some reports show that he illuminated vacuum
    tubes planted in the ground
  • ELF waves between surface of the earth and the
Ionosphere. Idea not taken seriously until
    1950s.
  • Transmission through the Ionosphere. Tesla did
not do this in Colorado Springs but felt that it
was possible and upon returning to New York began
    experimenting again with this idea.

16
Interesting Phenomena
  • Tesla was able to create ball lightning in his
lab at Colorado Springs. These balls of energy
would strike objects and explode with incredible
    force.
  • At Colorado Springs Tesla discovered a way to
create lights in the sky like the aurora. The
principle behind this is a ionizing ray that
could deliver millions of volts into the sky

Tesla Leaves Colorado
  • January 7th 1900 Tesla decides to close down his
lab in Colorado Springs, but does so in good
hopes of someday achieving wireless transmission
    of energy.
  • While I have not as yet actually effected a
transmission of a considerable amount of energy,
such as would be of industrial importance, to a
great distance by this new methodthe
practicality of the system is thoroughly
    demonstrated.
