Planning
  • Research
  • Cite all sources in a separate Word document
  • Must have at least three sources NOT including
    pictures
  • Complete the Planning Layout
  • Due at the end of class Tuesday!

Text
  • Use no more than two or three fonts
  • Avoid italicized fonts they are hard to read
  • Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, except for titles
    and emphasis
  • Make no more than six points per slide
  • Use no more than six to eight words per line
  • DO NOT write everything you are going to say

Graphics and Design
  • Keep the style of graphic images consistent
    throughout
  • Graphics should relate to and enhance the topic
  • Keep the background consistent and subtle
  • Use sounds and animation to bring content to
    life, but do not overuse them
  • Use transitions that match your topic

Color
  • Choose a color scheme that is easy on the eyes
  • Use dark text on light backgrounds or light text
    on dark backgrounds.
  • Limit the number of colors on a single slide.

Presentation
  • Proofread! You and at least one classmate
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Check that everything goes together and is
    appropriate to the topic
  • Rehearse your presentation before delivery
  • Speak slowly and clearly when presenting

  • Prepare notes to help you deliver an effective
    and dynamic presentation
  • Print handouts for your audience (me).
  • Use entrance animation to make your bullet points
    appear separately
  • Avoid reading from the screen
  • Use the points as a cue then describe in detail
  • Look at the monitor not the screen behind you

How to Create a Presentation

Create slides
  • Use New Slide button
  • Choose layout

Add Text and Graphics
  • Choose layout with text boxes/graphics desired
  • Click in boxes to add text
  • Click graphic or use Insert menu to add
    pictures
  • All pics should be saved to your PowerPoint
    folder NO copy and paste
  • Make sure graphics are the best quality no
    pixilated images!

Format Text and Backgrounds
  • Remember the rules from slide 4 about text
  • Remember the rules from slide 5 about backgrounds
  • Right click choose Background
  • Fill Effects for gradients, pictures, etc.

Add a Gif
  • Find a MOVING Gif from the internet
  • Searching the web is more effective than images
  • Save to your PowerPoint folder
  • Insert picture - from file
  • Gifs will only move in Slide Show view

Animate Text
  • Slide Design Animation schemes
  • Make sure you apply to all slides
  • Can make some changes in Custom Animation
  • Custom Animation
  • Choose item before animating
  • Entrance effects mean the item will not be on the
    slide when it starts
  • Check when you need to click and when things load
    automatically
  • CHANGE the effect do not keep pressing ADD effect
    to try them all out

Set Transitions
  • From task pane or Slide Show menu chose slide
    transitions
  • Do not set Automatic timings!!!!!
  • Be careful with sounds on transitions
  • Test the transition in Slide Show view it is
    different

Add Sound
  • Sounds add excitement
  • Too many create a problem
  • No songs playing in the background
  • Fair Use
  • Distracting
  • Wav files work best
  • Can be set to automatically play using Custom
    Animation pane
