PROJECT DESCRIPTION
  • Students will be playing the role of a police
    chief who is in charge of solving an over night
    robbery of a local business.
  • Students will be collecting and analyzing data
    which will be presented in the form of a power
    point.

LEARNER EXPECTATIONS science
  • Recognize evidence of recent human activity.
  • Observe footprints and infer direction and speed
    of travel, height, weight of suspect.
  • Analyze evidence and link to possible sources
    ie-foot prints, tire treads, soil samples, hair
    colour, finger prints.

TECHNOLOGY OUTCOMES
  • Create a power point presentation consisting of
    10-15 slides which show the solution of a
    robbery.
  • Use at least 3 different transitions and 3
    different animations.
  • Background colour and font should be clear and
    legible.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCES
  • You will need recipe cards for recording data,
    zip-lock bags for collecting evidence, tweezers,
    rubber gloves, access to a digital camera and a
    scanner. You may want to add samples of hair,
    shoes, mug shots finger prints, security
    measuring tapes etc. to be analyzed.

STUDENT TASK
  • You are a police chief who is holding a press
    conference to inform the public about an
    overnight robbery.
  • You must create a specific individual profile
    including clues such as hair colour, shoe size,
    height, weight, age, facial description,
    clothing, getaway vehicle, what was stolen.

  • You must collect, and catalogue all evidence
    found at the scene. (Use zip lock bags.)
  • Create a data base to illustrate the evidence you
    have collected.

  • You must have a minimum of 10 slides and a
    maximum of 15 slides.
  • One slide should be a wanted poster, one should
    be a line up, 2 or 3 may be finger prints and/or
    shoe prints and/or tire treads.You might want to
    include a picture of the stolen property.You
    might want to include a picture of the robbery
    scene. You could include a sample of hair or
    clothing fiber found at the scene.

    culprit. DO NOT TELL ANYONE that persons name.
  • Everything you do must centre around this person
    as your culprit.

  • At this time, you must link to a data base which
    you have created for your situation.

  • Using the materials provided by the teacher, you
    will be required to demonstrate the proper method
    of collecting evidence, cataloging and analyzing
    data.
