    Elementary School, will perform Life Every Voice
    and Sing. The song is a staple of Black History
    Month and is often referred to as The Negro
    National Anthem.

Honors
  • The Milton Moore Elementary Huskies boys
    basketball team won the Metro Sports Youth
    Basketball Tournament at William Jewell College
    in Liberty, Mo. The team won three games by an
    average 29 points.
  • The team is coached by Coach Horning, Coach
    Dulley, and Coach Gordon. The
    team members are Damien Daniels, Antwone
    Burnside, Steve Dulley, Malik Gordon, Chris
    Herring, Curtis Lewis, Ben McLain III.
  • Daniels and Dulley were nominated for the
    All Star Metro Sports Youth Team. The date of the
    game is to be announced later.
  • Dominique Lane, a Northeast High senior
    basketball player, has been named Hy-Vee
    Athlete of The Week by KSHB Channel 41.

Activities and notes
  • Comfort Stennis, a senior, won Northeast Highs
    Poetry Out Loud! competition. Sandra Allen,
    also a senior, was runner-up.
  • Central High School students are participating in
    The
    Motown Story Making Our Music Diverse as part
    of Black History Month. Each day, students hear
    an autobiography of a famous recording artist and
    attempt to guess the name of a song.
  • Central High football student-athletes Ricky
    Hicks and Wayne Lane recently accepted college
    scholarships. Lane, second in his class with a
    3.88 grade point average, will attend William
    Jewell College. Hicks, fifth in his class with a
    3.75 GPA, will attend Northwest Missouri State
    University.

Activities and notes
  • Lincoln Prep student-athletes Eric Harden, Greg
    Wright and Ayanna Johnson each accepted track
    scholarships to Pittsburg (Kan.) State
    University. The trio have each won
    Interscholastic League titles and qualified for
    state in 2007.
  • The Make A Difference Tour, a collection of
    dramatized skits that teach students positive
    decision-making, was performed at Crispus Attucks
    Elementary on Feb. 8, 2008.
  • Northeast High seniors Christopher Bernard,
    Preston Gazaway and Karen McGee voted during the
    Super Tuesday election. A story about the event

  • KCMSD is in the second week of Lifting As We
    Climb, a Black History Month celebration that
    honors past graduates of the District. Visit the
