Lyme Disease
  • Lyme Disease- Is inflammatory disease caused by a
spirochete (Borrelia Burgorferi), which is any of
various slender, spiral motile bacteria of the
order Spirochaetales, many of which are
    pathogenic.
  • Spirochete is transmitted by ticks, such as the
deer tick. Usually characterized initially by a
    rash followed by flulike symtoms.
  • If left untreated, the disease can result in
chronic arthritis and nerve and heart
    dysfunction.

Transmission
  • The deer tick, responsible for transmitting Lyme
Disease, is about the size of a freckle. Once
attached to a person, the barbed mouth, along
with a special glue, allows the tick to hold fast
    until it has finished feeding.

4
Symptoms
  • Spirochaetales , many which are pathogenic,
causing syphilis, relapsing fever, yawns, and
    other disease.
  • Since spirochete is transmitted by ticks, usually
characterized initially by a rash followed by
flulike symptoms including fever, joint pain, and
    headache.

5
Organs Involved
  • The skin is a major organ of the disease Lyme.
That is the first place the tick bites. The skin
    is known as its target.

6
Treatment
  • There is no universally effective antibiotic for
treating Lyme Disease. The choice of medication
used and the dosage prescribed will vary for
different people based on multiple factors.
  • These include age, weight, gastrointestinal
function, blood levels achieved, and patient
tolerance. Doses found to be effective
clinically are often higher than those
    recommended in older texts.

7
Current Research
  • FDA approved a vaccine for Lyme Disease
  • Also approved first in office test.

8
Summary
  • Lyme Disease is spread by deer ticks. When they
bite you the release a disease called spirochete
    into your blood system.
  • The disease (if left untreated) can result in
chronic arthritis and nerve and heart
    dysfunction.
