- Insects have many enemies. Every animal
- group, including insects eat them. Some of the
- more common predators are birds and
- amphibians.

- Insect young are raised in many different
- ways. Bees and wasps create hives and have a
- nursing area in the hive . Butterflies lay their
- eggs and leave the young ones on their own.
- Insects that live underground, create a
- birthing chamber and the young are cared for
- there.

- Tiny insects such as bees and wasps can hurt a
human by stinging them - Some insects have great camouflage, such as leaf
hoppers and walking sticks - Fireflies can make a light by using chemicals in
their body - Grasshoppers and crickets can communicate by
rubbing their wings together, and making noises
10Honey Bees
The Honey Bee is very well known in Vermont for
making honey and stinging people. Honey Bees
create large hives that they store their honey
in. Honey Bees pollinate flowers and are very
helpful to gardeners. They eat nectar and pollen.
I bet youve seen a Honey Bee before (and maybe
have gotten stung).

wings 230 times in a second!
