We celebrate his birthday each year because he
worked hard to make his dream of peace come true!

Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta,
Georgia, on January 15, 1929.
After college, he went to school to become a
minister.
He wanted to help people understand that all
people are important, no matter what color they
are.

Dr. King had a dream that one day all people
wouldbe treated equally.
He taught people to solve problems peacefully.
He was a leader in the civil rights movement.
8When did this happen?
1963 -- Dr. King gave his most famous speech, I
Have a Dream.
1964 -- He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
He was awarded this honor for his efforts toward
achieving peace.
1968 -- His life tragically ended when he was
assassinated.
1986 Dr. Kings birthday was first celebrated
as a national holiday.
