Cyborg fashion
high fashion, useful wearables, and the truly
bizarre

Today, on the runway and off, we can see the
image of the cyborg effecting fashion. More than
ever designers are using unique materials to
produce their clothing, and most have a
futuristic approach to the idea of clothes. This
picture for example shows a metal corset type
outfit. Why would anybody wear such a thing? Im
not sure, except that I know it looks pretty
cool. I looked at three aspects of cyborg
fashion. High fashion, useful wearables and the
truly bizarre. First, High fashion, or runway
fashion.

HIGH FASHION
High fashion is defined by fashion that you see
on the runways as opposed to on the streets.
Fashion on the runways have long been more on the
side of surreal rather than real. Todays fashion
designers have taken this to a new degree, by
incorporating more mechanical elements and
hypothesizing about what may be required of
clothing in the future.

This fellow is clearly on the mechanical end.
Each part of his body has been augmented by his
clothing. But to what end. I doubt very much that
it has enhanced his way of life.

The wedding dress for the new cyborg nation. The
mask/veil is supposed to be a gas mask of sorts.
I havent figured out what the gloves are for
yet. What would your grandmother say?

USEFUL WEARABLES
These designs bring us one step closer to being
truly cyborg by incorporating clothing with
aspects that augment our original selves.

This jacket is one of coolest things Ive seen I
a while. The numbers on the left hand side of the
jack are the key pad to music making/playing
system. The circles on the pockets are the
speakers, and different parts of the jacket are
wired to make different noises. You can record
your own movements and then play them back or
simply play your favorite cd.

Prosthetics
Prosthetics have been our most visible form of
cyborg fashion for centuries. Ever since the
first pirate put on the first peg leg we have
strived for better and more lifelike prosthetics.
Now, however the turn is toward more artistic,
fashionable prosthetics.

THE TRULY BIZARRE!
Many of the images I found in the search for
cyborg fashion were just too strange to
categorize. Some could be considered high
fashion, and some might be considered useful
wearables (though this is debatable) all are
truly bizarre!!
