Mission
  • The KELY Support Group is the only bilingual
organization for young people in Hong Kong that
provides harm reduction services to inform,
    empower and build peer support.
  • History
  • The KELY Support Group was established by a
recovering young person in 1991. She found that
her recovery was facilitated by the help of her
peers, and it is on this basis that The KELY
Support Group continues to focus on Peer Support
in its mission to help young people.

Did you know that .

    tendencies
  • 13.6 of drug users in HK are under 21
  • Young people 15 24 years old account for 50 of
    new HIV infections worldwide

disorders now than 15 years ago in HK

Comments from parents and young people
  • My daughter is on antidepressants. Last week she
went out snorting cocaine all night, came home
and tried to cut her wrists. Again. She is 15.
    How can KELY help?
  • My daughter was spiked with ketamine and raped by
a US Navy Officer. She was 14.
  • I got pregnant and have taken illegal abortion
pills from an outlet in Kowloon. I am in
incredible pain and cant stop bleeding. What
    should I do?
  • I am worried I am becoming addicted to internet
pornography. I need to study for my exams but
just cant get the images out of my head. Help!
  • (adapted from e mail hotline and calls from
    parents)

5
Why KELY?
  • There is a desperate need for support and
someone to talk to, for young people and their
parents. Hong Kong can be an isolating place,
with rapid change, breakdown of family networks,
impossible expectations from schools and society
young people are more at risk then ever.
  • Those young people are our kids, our kids
friends, its all around us. In a few years time
those are the people we will be interviewing to
work for us, the people who will take Hong Kong
    into the future.

What are people saying about us?
  • Hip Hop Hoops Anti-drugs Programme
  • Not only did I learn how to move my body, I also
learned to cooperate with others and have respect
for everyone. And I will definitely come back to
join the Hip Hop Program again because it is
better off than being somewhere else with my
friends where I usually hang out and get nothing
but being a second hand smoker.
  • Girl, 16, Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School
  • Body Art Movement programme
  • The workshop got me to explore myself intensely,
both physically and mentally.  It pushed me to
move like I've never moved before and in a sense
allowed me to re-establish my own existence and
acknowledge my ability to move once more.  In a
sense it was therapeutic and revitalizing.
Through the artwork I got to explore my mental
state and forced me to ask questions about myself
which were always at the back of my mind.  In
general the workshop made me work out of my
    comfort zone, physically, mentally and
spiritually and in doing so allowed me to see and
delve into a deeper understanding of myself.

More.
  • Peer talk
  • I think the KELY Peer talk is a great
environment where teenagers can express their
feelings and troubles with each other. We
frequently work as a team to help resolve
problems and most of the time, enjoy a few hearty
chuckles in the process. I always feel like the
group is warm towards everyone and we develop a
real bond with each other even though weve only
met for a few minutes. The sense of togetherness
and unity we had was simply amazing.
  • Island school student, 17
  • Volunteering for KELY
  • KELY has helped teenagers in Hong Kong
tremendously by improving their self-esteem and
boosting their confidence. Through the workshops,
KELY has also increased the knowledge of
teenagers on issues like drugs, bullying, sex,
etc., and taught them how to deal with such
    issues.
  • French international School Student, 17
