Charter against Racism in Sport
  • Major initiative of Know Racism 2001-2004
  • Launched by Taoiseach on 8 October 2003
  • Signed by major sporting organisations
  • Commitment to ensure that activities of
    organisations are free from discrimination,
    harassment, prejudice on the grounds of race,
    colour, ethnic or national origins, religious
    belief and membership of the Traveller community.
  • To challenge racism in all its forms and welcome
    participants and spectators from all
    nationalities

NPAR and Sport
  • Recognition concerned with recognition and
    awareness of cultural diversity and racism, with
    a focus on awareness-raising
  • Developing the potential of sports and leisure to
    promote interaction and understanding of cultural
    diversity
  • Provide support for strategic initiatives to
    promote intercultural participation in sport and
    to combat racism.
  • Grant scheme in 2005 allocated 270,000 to 45
    projects in 17 counties

    North Tipperary, Offaly, Sligo, Waterford and

  • Clare Ennis Sport and Leisure Directory in six
    languages
  • Donegal first steps programme dedicated
    integration programme, focusing on inclusion,
    training and awareness.

Grants for Local Sports Partnerships
  • Kerry sports inclusion through using
    animateurs from minority communities
    volleyball
  • Mayo develop Parkside Integrated Sports Plan to
    include more people from minority communities,
    train coaches and increase awareness martial
    arts
  • Offaly promotional campaign, identification of
    sports, training, culminating in international
    olympics
  • Sligo dedicated projects in soccer for kids,
    basketball, GAA and volleyball
