Title: ICOADS Miscellaneous Metadata Imaging Task L35
1ICOADS Miscellaneous Metadata Imaging (Task L-35)
Scott Woodruff Earth System Research Laboratory
(ESRL), OAR/NOAA
Purpose The International Comprehensive
Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS) project was
initiated in 1981. The purpose of this continuing
task is to image into readily usable archival
format (PDF) a number of important project
records, international publications, and
associated materials that presently exist only on
paper. Significance The documents proposed for
imaging will enrich the digital metadata
associated with ICOADS. Some documents are also
highly relevant to WMO and to the Joint WMO/IOC
Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine
Meteorology (JCOMM).
2FY08 L-35 Accomplishments
- Copies or translations of national historical
marine observing instructions from UK Met Office
(19th-20thC) - 1986 COADS Workshop Proceedings
- Japanese Whaling Ships (1946-84) logsheets
(proprietary--not for public release) - WMO Operational Newsletter, 1982-96
Imaged (PDF) documents will be made available (as

websites, and eventually at WMO http//icoads.noa
