Title: College Study Skills Project Presentation

1
College Study SkillsProject Presentation
  • My Three Study Habits
  • The Progress I made

2
Goals
  • To manage my time better
  • When to study?
  • When to socialize?
  • When to sleep?
  • To understand material covered in classes
  • To make sure I maintain good sleeping habits

3
Background
  • Responsibilities outnumber amount of time to
    complete them
  • Study hall requirement
  • Need to balance academics and other activities
    (sleep, relaxing, eating)
  • Want to understand material covered in classes

4
Statement of Work
  • Three Methods
  • Time management 1 hour on chemistry a day
  • Conceptual Understanding Calculus Tutor and SI
    at least twice a week
  • Performance Eight hours of sleep at least three
    nights a week

5
Tasks
  • Time Management I plan to set aside at least an
hour every school day to work on Chemistry
homework/reading. I will need to budget my time
so that I have a chance each day to fulfill this
task without interrupting my other strategies and
other commitments I have during the day.
  • Conceptual Understanding I have chosen my
weakest class at this point in time. This is
Chemistry 111. I plan to try and improve my
overall grade to a B if I am able. I will do
this by attending at least two hours of tutoring
or Supplemental Instruction sessions a week for
    this subject alone.
  • Performance Getting through a 15-hour course
load and soccer each day is a challenge. In
order to keep myself from getting bad grades and
not doing well in soccer, I will need to focus on
getting more sleep. My task is to attain at
least eight hours of sleep three out of the five
    nights during the school week.

6
Deliverables
  • Time Management I had a calendar, which I
marked with an amount of time that I worked on my
Chemistry for the day/night. The goal is to make
one hour or more of my day available for this.
  • Conceptual Understanding On the calendar for
time management above, I denoted days which I
attended an SI or tutoring session for Chemistry.
  • Performance I used a calendar to record with a
check or an x or even an amount of time that
denoted whether or not I achieved my eight hours
    of sleep a night goal.

Schedule
8
Work Effort
  • All in all, my tasks fit in with my schedule well
enough that it was not hard to alter my habits to
    accommodate them.
  • This project was very helpful, especially with
this being my first semester as a college level
student that just so happened to be in season!!
  • On my first task, I spent at least 7 hours a week
    on Chemistry (counting weekends).
  • On my second task, I spent at least two hours a
week attending Chemistry tutoring and SI
    sessions.
  • For my third task, I attempted to spend eight
hours a night sleeping for three out of five
nights of the week. Although this may seem to be
the easiest task since sleeping is a favorite
activity among most, it is hard personally for me
to budget my time awake in order to get the eight
    hours.
  • Time Spent on Project 27 hours (not including
    the sleep task)

9
Evaluation
  • This project was an important part of my routine
    this semester.
  • It kept me accountable so that it was on my to do
list. Instead of thinking about it being just
studying, I thought about it being like
fulfilling my Study Skills project requirements.
  • I achieved my goals that I set for myself. The
time required was definitely reasonable. I seem
to be more confident about my studying habits
than I think I would have been before this
    project.
  • If I started again, I would add figuring out how
best to study for tests to my list.
  • The insight or change I found in this project was
that I held myself accountable to make sure I met
    my goals for the week.
