Kind Call vs. Assertive Call

Introduction

• We wanted to see the difference in time between
  calling a dog aggressively and calling a dog
  kindly. Both times we gave the dog a treat incase
  the call alone would not cause them to come over
  to us.

• Any body interested in dogs

The Experiment

• Null Hypothesis
• there is no difference in time between calling a
  dog over assertively and kindly.
• Alternative Hypothesis
• there is a greater difference in time for calling
  a dog over assertively than calling over a dog
  kindly.

Data Collection Plan

• Selected 15 dogs to sample
• Used RandInt function on the calculator to
  determine which treatment would go first. (1kind
  call, 2assertive call)
• Made sure the dogs were 15 feet away from us
  before we called them over
• We will conduct a Matched Pairs T-Test

Problems Encountered

• Confounding Variable
• We did not say the same exact command phrases to
  each dog
• Outliers
• Two of the dogs would not come to us on the
  aggressive calls so we had to throw them out of
  our data

Matched Pairs T-test

• Our p-value was less than the alpha level of 0.05
  so we rejected the null and accepted the
  alternate that there is a greater difference in
  time for calling a dog over assertively than
  calling over a dog kindly.

Confidence Interval

• We are 95 confident that that the true average
  difference between an assertive call and a kind
  call towards a dog will be between 0.779 seconds
  and 6.605 seconds.
