It is a 152-foot-high statue from France made of
copper.
It was shipped to the US in 1885.

  • George Washington was the first president.
  • He was born Feb.22, 1732. His home was Mount
    Vernon, Virginia.
  • He died Dec. 14, 1799.
  • He helped right the Constitution in 1787. He was
    the only president who was elected without
    opposition. He was six feet and two inches tall.
    He was the president from 1789 to 1797.

Born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia
He won equal rights to the African-Americans. He
won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was killed
by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968.

The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic sunk April 4 to April 15, 1912 on
the coast of Newfoundland, Canada in the Atlantic
Ocean. There were about seven hundred survivors.
The two thousand passengers aboard the ship were
told by experts that certain materials made the
boat unsinkable. Of course, this wasnt true.

The White House
The White House is located in Washington, D.C.
And it is the official home of the President. Its
address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The British
burned the original White House during the War of
1812. The only thing that was saved from the
original White House was a portrait of George
Washington. The White House was rebuilt from
1948 to 1952. Presently, the White House is a
living museum, a home, and office.

The American Flag was adopted in 1960. The first
flag had 13 stars and 13 stripes that stood for
the first 13 colonies. The red, white, and blue
came from the British flag which symbolized
English heritage. When Vermont and Kentucky
became states, more stars and stripes were added
to the flag. In 1818, Congress returned the flag
to its original self with 13 stars. The flag we
have today has 50 stars and 13 stripes.

The San Francisco Earthquake
  • The San Francisco Earthquake took place on April
    18, 1906. It happened in the morning at 513 am.
    Around 500 people were killed and 250,000 people
    homeless. Following the earthquake was an
    outbreak of fires. It was the USAs worst natural
    disaster ever.
  • Around 6,000 earthquakes occur around the world
    every year, but they are all so small that they
    arent even destructive.

The First Thanksgiving
Where Plymouth, Massachusetts
Thanksgiving became a national holiday when
Abraham Lincoln said the fourth Thursday in
November would be Thanksgiving. He said this
during the Civil War in 1863. At the first
Thanksgiving, the foods served consisted of
ducks, geese, wild turkey, corn and fish.

Elvis Presley
Elvis Aron Presley was born January 8, 1935 in
Tupelo, Mississippi. He lived in Memphis,
Tennessee. He was the first rock n roll
superstar. He began recording music in the
mid-1950s. Some of his songs that became number
one hits were Heartbreak Hotel, Dont Be
Cruel, and Hound Dog. More than one billion
records by Elvis Presley have been sold. When
Elvis was 42 he died from a heart attack that was
caused by his use of drugs.

  • Labor Day is a holiday that honors American
    workers. It occurs on the first Monday of
    September. The first Labor Day was September 5,
    1882. Oregon became the first state that made
    Labor Day legal holiday. In other countries such
    as Europe, May Day honors workers. Today, we
    celebrate Labor Day with parades and speeches.

Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is the worlds oldest
national park. At Yellowstone, about every four
minutes a jet of water shoots into the air 150
feet. It comes from Old Faithful, a famous
geyser. Yellowstones rugged appearance is
created by the boiling heat that comes from the
Earth. About 3 million people come to Yellowstone
every year to see and take photos of this amazing
3,462 square miles of beautiful nature.

capitol is Salem. It became a state in 1859. It
has a population of 2,842,300 people. Its area is
98,386 square miles.

is part of Western mythology that was believed to
start in the Midwest and go all the way to the
Pacific Ocean.

3rd President. He was tall and red-headed.
