Make a ball of clay about the size of an
orange. While holding the ball of clay in your
left hand, wet your thumb and push your thumb
into the ball of clay . Leave about one
cm or half an inch of clay at the bottom.

  • 1. Pinch the clay between your thumb and
    fingers while supporting the ball of clay with
    your other hand.2. Turn the ball slightly.3.
    Repeat steps 1 and 2 thinning the clay at the
    bottom of the pot.Notice, in the cut-a-way view
    below, how the bottom of the pot is shaped first.
    Most of the problems beginners have in making a
    well formed pot come from opening up the top part
    of the pot too soon. 4. Now move your fingers up
    closer to the rim (away from the bottom) and
    repeat step 1 to 3.5. Repeat the above steps
    forming a pot with walls of about .5cm (quarter
    inch) thickness.
