Author Biography
  • Edmund Bohun was a press licenser in England, and
he was also very involved in politics
  • His opinions made him many enemies, including a
fellow writer who tricked Bohun into printing a
book that made him very unpopular and basically
got him fired from his position with the King.
  • This fellow writer also published a kind of
tell-all about Bohun that was very negative in
tone and it circulated widely in London
  • The negative sentiment that the public had for
Bohun transferred to their feelings for the
licensing regulations in the publishing industry.
Due to his public disgrace, the Licensing Act
was allowed to expire and this essentially freed
    the printing presses in London
