Project - Introduction
  • The "digital librarianship" program at Wayne
    State University was made possible by an IMLS
    grant.
  • Project sites include DHM, DPL, HFM, MSU,
    TRC-WSU, and Reuther Library-WSU.

  • Digitization of Bert Williams sheet music from
    the E. Azalia Hackley Collection at the Detroit
    Public Library.

Who is Bert Williams
  • Born November 12, 1875 as Egbert Austin Williams
    in Antigua but later moved to California
  • Studied people and grew to be a great
    pantominist.
  • Developed a trademark character - Mr. Nobody
    his signature work
  • Teamed up with George Walker to produce shows
    such as Bandana Land
  • He later joined the Ziegfeld Follies
  • Died on March 4, 1922

Overview Detroit Historical Museum Project
  • Digitization of William Stouts collection.
  • This includes model cars, airplanes, scarab cars
    and drawings.

Who is William Stout
  • Born on March 14, 1880
  • Attended a Mechanic Art High School in Minnesota.
  • Attended Hemline University but later transferred
    to University of Minnesota.
  • Became Chief Engineer for the Schurmeir Motor
    Truck Company in 1907 and in 1912, he became
    automobile and aviation editor for the Chicago
    Tribune.
  • In the 1920s he started the Stout Engineering
    Company and built the Stout Scarab car. He then
    began to build an all-metal airplane.
  • In 1924 his company was bought by the Ford Motor
    Company.
  • He died on March 20, 1956
