St. Fintinas Post Primary School
  • Background
  • St. Fintinas post primary school began in
    Longwood in 1952 under the management of County
    Meath Vocational Education Committee.
  • In 1966 the school moved to new accomodation and
    was named St. Fintinas Vocational School after a
    nun who had established a nunnery in the environs
    of the school.
  • Due to a rapidly growing population in Longwood,
    plans are underway to purchase a greenfield site
    to house a school of 500 students.

  • At present 160 students are enrolled in the
    school.
  • Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate and
    Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme are
    offered to all students.
  • An advantage of being a small school is that
    teachers are able to give more individual
    attention to pupils
  • The school curriculum is supplemented by an
    extensive co-curricular and extra curricular
    programme.

  • Longwood is situated in South County Meath
    approximately 50 kilometres from Dublin.
  • It is a rural village with a rapidly growing
    population.
  • Many people commute from Longwood to Dublin to
    work daily.
  • The GAA club is a central part of life in
    Longwood.
  • The scenic royal canal passes through Longwood
    and is a popular place for a tranquil walk or for
    an afternoon of fishing.

    many places of historical significance e.g. St.
