Title: Problematized Statements

1
Problematized Statements
2
Making assertions into opposing arguments
  • To problematize means to make something seem like
    a problem.
  • You problematize arguments by making them appear
to be debatable opinions not facts.

3
How to write them
  • It may be argued/asserted that
  • It could be contended/maintained that
  • It might be claimed/said

4
But..
  • Your next statement after a problematized one
    rebuts your opposing argument.

5
Example
  • My assertion
  • All 12th grade English teachers should have an
    equally rigorous curriculum.
  • To problematize the opposing argument.
  • It can be argued that 12th grade English teachers
should make their curriculum less than
challenging because seniors are so busy in their
    last year of high school.
