Title: Web Design

1
Web Design
2
Sites Message
  • Establish the message
  • Narrow down the topic
  • This should be something you already know about
or are willing to learn about
  • You should be interested in this topic
  • The topic is not too narrow and not too broad

3
Your message should be
  • This web site will _______________________.
  • This is like a mission statement.
  • What will your website do?

4
Research your message on the web
  • Start your resource list
  • Where did you find information about your
    message?
  • Keep a list of these URLs and what each is about
    in a separate Word document.

5
Sites Audience
  • An audience is a group of people who have
something in common a target group of people
  • Who will your web site attract who will have
something in common with your message

6
Audience
  • Who do you want to have read and view your web
    pages?
  • These should be
  • People searching for information
  • People interested in your type of organization
  • People interested in your type of product
  • Personal your family and friends

7
Sites Purpose
  • Be very specific
  • Define
  • What is your audience looking for
  • Why are they searching
  • Know your audience
  • Dont talk over their heads or talk down to them

8
Purpose
  • Consider
  • What kind of information would make someone visit
    your web sites topic?
  • What do you already know about the topic
  • What would someone need or want from this web
    site
  • How should the information be presented
  • What parts are the most interesting and beneficial

9
Purpose
  • Make a list of what you will present on your web
    site called SCOPE
  • SCOPE IN on what you will cover and not cover

10
Structure of the Message
  • Linear Structure
  • User sees one page at a time, like reading a
    book.

11
  • Heirarchical Structure
  • Resembles a Family tree. Has parents and
    children
  • Like an outline

12
  • Random Access Structure
  • Jumps from one part of the site to another
    instantly
  • Allows for quick access to all information
  • Can be confusing

13
  • Mixed structure
  • Partly random access, linear and hierarchical
  • Most web sites are this way

14
How to use these structures
  • Chunks of information go in to each of these
boxes. The message has to be broken up into
    parts.
  • Start by drawing boxes. In each box brainstorm
the kind of information that you want to go into
    you website
  • Some may need to be crossed out

15
Storyboarding
16
  • Decide what part you dont want to cover, and
    what part doesnt belong
  • Are the boxes you have left related to your
    topic?

17
Now consider how these boxes flow together.
  • How is it related to each other?
  • Can you now start at a certain point and have
then have the information flow together?
  • Can the information be organized?
