What is direct and indirect speech?

• When you report what people say, you can use
  direct speech.
• Im hungry, John said.
• John said that he was hungry.

• When you report what someone says, you need to
  use verbs of speech. We usually use these verbs
  in past tense.

  indirect speech to show that something was said
  in the past, we need to change the tenses,
  pronouns, time expressions, etc.
